I though so at beginning, but having reviewed the job description it seems computer programming skills are required more. So I'm confused.

i"m not in that field, but maybe they want the analysts to use programming to detect irregular trading activities, etc.

Is it buy side or sell side? If buy side, there are different compliance requirements for different clients (especially for public funds), so they might have you code those rules into their compliance system which generally talks to their trading and accounting systems.
