Do some research before you go there. Know what kind of diamond you want. Use google to search NY diamond district, you will find a lot of people talking about stores. Shop around and don't make a purchase right away. They all provide GIA certificate and you can get the appraisal nearby at some diamond institute. Sorry, forget the name. Most of time, they sell loose diamond. Then you pick the setting and they will set for you. If you want, you can do all these things one day -- find the right diamond, do the appriasal and get the setting done. But better to go there a couple of times before make the decision. Good luck.

BTW, it is really cheap there. You will find a deal if you did enough research.

谢谢skittles and yuanyuanlu mm，我打算下个周末就飞过去，这些information太有用了，现在就去做research,那个appraisal是在买完乐去做还是买之前先鉴定，鉴定完了在交钱阿。另外鉴定大概要多少钱钱啊？

我们也是要飞过去的，既然可以不缴税，真的可以省出两个人的机票钱，小财迷开始流口水了

但是用cash会不会不安全啊？总觉得用信用卡有保证，万一发现问题，还可以找信用卡公司帮忙dispute

还有个问题，mm们有比较好的店推荐给我嘛？怕那里店太多了，自己挑花眼了

Appraisal should be less than $150. They allow you to have the appraisal before you buy. Then you can get the appraisal after the setting. I remembered that those appraisal places are not open over the weekend.
