Wednesday, October 19th : If it seems like we're not updating this page very often, it's because the leaves aren't changing very much. Temperatures have been pretty mild over the past two weeks, although we've had a few mornings earlier this week that were noticeably brisk. Today's temps are generally in the low 80s across north Georgia. But
the forecast for this weekend predicts a decent chance of rain and lows falling into the 40s. This will be the second good shot of cool air that will affect the change in leaf color, which has been slow to develop this year. Although there seems to be a little more color now than a couple of weeks ago, it's still only about 20% of peak at elevations around 4,000 feet. If we get the cooler temperatures early next week and if hurricane Wilma does not cause too much blustery weather that blows leaves off the trees, we could see a good bit of color the weekend before Halloween.
