Believe it or not, that's a pretty good price for alterations.  If you only have a small amount to alter, try a smaller local based tailor and see if they can do it.  But, if you do that, better to make sure they do good work.  Unlucky for me, I'm much shorter than the dress... so lots of fixing and $$
