Just got my Citi Divident Platinum Card. Here is my experience to share.
1. I've been in the US for three years, but never applied for a credit card before, only have one joint card (he just added my name to his account)with my husband.
2. I went online this morning, searching for citi credit cards options. Accidently applied for a Citi Divident Platinum for College Students--already graduated After realizing this, I applied for the Citi Divident Platinum Master Card. Filled out all the information, got approved within 30 seconds.
3. After lunch, I called Citi customer service to cancel the card for college students. OK, here is the point: The lady asked my ssn first, and the system allowed her to pull two applications within the last 90 days. It's me, I know. She then confirmed my information, including name, address, phone number. I asked her whether I could cancel my first application since I am not a college student any more. She said my first application was already denied and she could do nothing about that; my second application was approved and I should receive my card within 7-10 days. I then asked her whether the denial will influence my credit score. She said no, except it will show on my credit report that citi has checked my credit twice.
The reason for them to deny my first application is that I am not a permanant resident. In other words, that card is only available to college students who are permanent residents or US citizens.
