There should be some short-term investment available. I have put portion of mine into a short-term brokage account (mutual funds). It has more flexibility in terms of withdrawing it, and yet it has a better return.

some of the universities have that service to receive the W2 form online, you will have to register to get it. you should check to see if that service is available. otherwise, you should be able to receive the W2 in the mail by the end of january (the latest).
