A: No. And you should be able to the FICA during OPT back.

仔细读了，可是怎么感觉这两条矛盾呢？

我也想问个问题。2007年变成了resident，上半年是用的opt，公司没有扣ssn和medicare tax。
这种情况下应该补交对吧？补交的时候那免税的$5000部分也需要按比例扣ssn和medicare tax吗？

mm咱俩情况类似，不过我是elect to file as a resident...很晕，到底该不该付这个payrolltax啊

IRS的解释上也是，如果是R了，就不能享受豁免了。除非你的收入和学位有关。

I have read all the replies. Still not quite sure what I should do. My visa changed from F1(OPT) to H1B on Octobor 1, 2007. my employer never deduct anything for medicare and social security taxes from my pay. I just noticed that from my W2 form. So now my question is how do I pay IRS? How do I figure out how much i owe IRS? HR in my firm refused to do anything for me. Btw, I have already filed the tax extension form but I didn't take into account the social security and medicare taxes I owe. Please help! Urgent!

mm我跟你情况一样，公司去年最后三个月也忘了给我withhold FICA，公司律师说他会找IRS重新给我issue一个W2，汗一个不好意思我们公司动不动就找律师。。。

也请版主们说说是不是从新弄个W2就好了？（ps我已经file extension了）
