The new iPad is coming out today, and whether you’re standing in line this morning or waiting for a delivery, you’ll want to check out this list of games to download when you get your paws on that shiny new tablet.

Our editorial staff picked out some of the best games in the App Store, and each one has graphics that are sure to look amazing on your new high resolution iPad. Check out the list, download a few, and get ready to spend some quality time with that new iDevice.

Waking Mars ($4.99) – This relatively new game from Tiger Style is an innovative exploration adventure game where the goal is to explore the lost caverns beneath Mars, bringing life back to the planet by planting alien seeds to cultivate life. From the scenic Mars landscapes to the incredible caves and glowing, realistic alien plants, Waking Mars is visually stunning. It not only looks good – it plays well too. I guarantee you’ll be addicted to this game in no time.

Incoboto ($3.99) – Incoboto is a challenging puzzle game featuring a lonely creature named Inco who is alone in a world that’s been destroyed by an overzealous corporation. The only other sentient being is a sun named Helios, who is able to restore power to some of the universe’s dead systems, as long as Inco (and you) help solve the puzzles to get the mechanical components working again. Helios, Inco, and the planets they explore are all gorgeously designed.

Machinarium ($4.99) - Machinarium is an absolutely stunning independent puzzle adventure game that features an adorably endearing robot. There are a wide variety of puzzles that range from easy to difficult, and with ten hours of gameplay (give or take a couple), you’ll be playing this game for awhile. There is no dialogue or language in the game, but a series of thought bubbles will guide players through brain teasers and engrossing puzzles.

The Tiny Bang Story HD ($2.99) – The Tiny Bang Story is yet another puzzle game with challenging gameplay, tough puzzles, and an entirely unique atmosphere. This is a game for serious puzzle players, but anyone who perseveres through the challenges will be rewarded with a bright, colorful, and downright beautiful world that’s been drawn entirely by hand. In the game, the world has fallen apart and it’s up to you to use imagination and creativity to restore its machines and mechanisms back to working order.

Pocket RPG ($2.99) – This dual-stick action dungeon crawler is a ton of fun. RPG lovers can choose from three classes, each with a distinct combat style. Explore trap-filled dungeons that are swarming with monsters and collect tons of treasure before defeating level bosses. There are abilities to level up and equipment to unlock. Be warned, though. This is no simple game – it’s tough, and it’s not your traditional RPG, but it looks great and plays even better.

Infinity Blade 2 ($6.99) – Epic Games always has the iOS titles that make the most of the current iDevice, and Infinity Blade 2 is no exception. The first Infinity Blade looked amazing, but this one blows it out of the water. Oh, and it’s got pretty good action adventure gameplay too, with plenty of combat plus multiple classes of weapons, armors, and spells, so there’s bound to be something for everyone. If there’s one game guaranteed to look amazing on the new iPad, this is it.

Anomaly Warzone Earth HD ($3.99) – Tower defense is a popular genre in the App Store, so we picked one of the best looking TDs with the most impressive graphics (and excellent gameplay, of course). Of course, it may be more a tower offense than a tower defense. In Anomaly, you take control of the attacking force, leading your heavily armored squad of marines against the destructive tower defenses of an alien horde, avoiding attacks and destroying towers and torrents with specialized weapons.

Temple Run (Free) – This free endless runner is ultra simple,  ultra addictive, and it looks pretty good too. In the majority of endless runner games, you’ll spend your time carefully avoiding obstacles from left to right, but in Temple Run, you’re behind the runner in full 3D, making this game stand out from a slew of other endless running games. Players will need to turn and slide to avoid obstacles while collecting as many coins as possible. This is one of the best endless running games available in the App Store.

Glowfish ($2.99) – Glowfish, from MumboJumbo, is one of those games that never quite got the attention that it deserves. Its an underwater aquatic exploration and adventure game that’s an absolute visual feast with its bright, glowing graphics. In this game, your job is to save Glowfish’s friend Coralline from the clutches of the evil Dr. Urchin by swimming around and collecting fish.

Paper Monsters ($0.99) – Paper Monsters, from Crescent Moon Games, is probably the single most gorgeously designed sidescrolling platformer available in the App Store. It features a cardboard box robot living in a world made out of paper, boxes, and cotton balls. The characters are adorable, the environments are stunning, and the gameplay is ultra fun and addictive.
