Ahead of March 7th’s next generation iPad release, iPads with high resolution 2048×1536 displays and unreleased versions of iOS have appeared in server logs, according to Ars Technica.

In February, Ars Technica’s website was visited 346 times from a device with a 2048×1536 screen, which is believed to be Apple’s iPad 3 (or HD), since there aren’t any other devices on the market with that resolution.

When tracking iPads that were used to visit the site from Apple’s corporate IP block in Cupertino, the website discovered devices running iOS 5.0, 5.01, the developer only 5.1 and the as of yet unannounced iOS 6.

Apparently the iOS 6 devices are using a newer build of the WebKit rendering engine, listed as v535.8, compared to the v534.46 used in earlier operating systems. There are no details known about the upcoming operating system, but it is not expected to launch alongside the iPad 3 because even 5.1 hasn’t been released to the public.

Instead, iOS 6 will likely be launched in the summer or fall of 2012, when Apple typically announces its major operating system upgrades. It will likely coincide with the release of the sixth generation iPhone.

Apple’s next generation iPad, which has been deemed the iPad HD by some manufacturers, will be announced on March 7th in San Francisco.
