Everything and everyone in China is so one-dimensional. You have to conform to whatever is most popular at the time and to whatever everyone else is doing. Whereas in US you can choose to live whatever lifestyle you like. You can be eclectic. You can be off mainstream. You have the freedom and the room.
why it's so much negative about china
i don't think people in china is so one-dimensional, there are many oppporitunities, and you can achvie the level you cannot achieve here
and compare to nyc, how long history shanghai has, and how long nyc has
i love nyc but i believe shanghai and beijing would improve better and better and catch up with nyc
In China, people don't take time to build cities, and the cities suffer from that sooner or later. Also in general, it is true that "mainstream" is popular in China, but being different means you'll have hard time to deal with people around you and the public.
非常同意这句话。我以前是坚决想要回国的，喜欢国内的生活。现在虽然也挺想回去，但是拼命在美国挣扎着找工作不敢回去。我觉得我现在的感情生活，生活方式和事业选择都偏离社会主流，来自外人的压力虽然不是毁灭性的，但是会非常让人困扰。我的父母家人都是长期在国内社会形成的单一价值观，光是他们的唠叨和judgements我就觉得承受不了。我希望未来的一二十年，中国社会能像美国80-90年代一样diversity有一个质的进步，或者我自己变得坚强一些，刀枪不入，那时候我或许很愿意回国生活。
