我找工作时，有个保险公司的OFFER，工资给得相当好，工作时间也好，不要求我考级，但是如果我愿意，他们给我时间，并付钱。而且我觉得自己考的来的。因为我很稀饭PROBABILITY的东西。我由于其他的原因选了现在的CONSULTING。工作时间长，不固定。工资也差不多。常常觉得自己选错了。估计现在想去那个公司，人家也会要我的。我换不换呢？

如果你数学很好的话不用特地读精算的吧。没有绿卡工作也挺好找的。精算有很多门科目要考，但一般公司都不会要求你全考出来才去工作，他们会出钱让你考的。当然你如果已经通过一两门的话找到工作的机率会更大些。我认识几个master学数学的朋友现在都在做这个。难是肯定难的，否则人人都去做了不是？但以你的基础应该可以handle.我学数学的朋友说做精算是他能找的最简单的工作了。

统计的话如果会SAS工作应该也很好找。问题是master的统计出来大多就是做programming。工资不会太高，也没什么挑战性。要我选的话精算比统计好。一来门槛高一些能够做的人少竞争相对少一些，二来能够把那些课都考出来工资非常高。MM是读物化PHD的，应该基础很好，不找个门槛高点的工作就亏了。

Personally I think 精算 has more career advancement than statistics, but it needs high level of writing skills later on as you become senior. For example, I heard 6 or 7 level exams only contain essay questions. Do you like that?

3是如果，我不读书，自己自学考试的话，可以吗？不过，我找的资料都说这样很难。如果我考SAS的资格证书会简单一些吗？对找工作有帮助吗？

it really depends...

if you really pass all the exam, acturial is definitely rewarding for money-wise

but just like you said, it requires good writing skills, and acturial is kind of boring in some way, more like a fixed career path... and you have to pass the exams in a certain period of time, otherwise the company won't keep you

I agree with you. I have thought about going for acturial field, but I gave up after consulting with several friends in the field. I am just not that type of person always geared up preparing for exams, it takes years and years.

如果MM google一下actuarial exams的话应该会找到不少有用的信息的。一共要考10+门考试，但一般考个一，二门就可以入行了。后面的费用通常公司会报销的，而且公司通常会鼓励你学习，比如上班的时间可以让你看书(如果不是很忙得season的话)，到考试前还可以让你带薪休假在家里复习功课。但自己绝对是要花很多工余时间在备考上面的。我印象里精算起薪是七八万左右(西岸中等城市)。如果全部考出起薪12万，做到senior可以拿到17。18万。工作多数是在保险公司这样的地方。

from what my friends told me, 精算起薪 is about 60K-70K. They are in Chicago and CT.

insurance companies, most of jobs are in east coast. State government also has a lot of openings, but I am not sure if they sponsor anymore.
