It really depends on what your major is. For example, bio-major, almost no way to find an industry job after obtaining a PhD, normally it also requires longer postdoc years to find a job, either industrial or academic. But for statistic major, industrial and academic positon are available right away. Like chemistry.... and like physics.... and like EEs.... and like CS...
Ecomomy plays a VERI important role as well...
