It's because of you, Jack, that I'm like this -- nothing, and nobody."

I think his father was trying to teach him to be a homophobic, not to hate homosexuals.

LUREEN抱着家丑不可外扬的观念在电话里和ENNIS撒了慌说JACK是意外事故而死, 她当时只知道JACK是个GAY被人打死但并不知道渊源是在ENNIS那里. 她的声音面容都很冷酷,也许是因为JACK的事情给她带来的不仅是感情上的痛苦也是名誉上的耻辱. 直到ENNIS告诉她BBM,那个被JACK称为天堂的地方,就是他们二十年前放羊的地方,LUREEN才一下子醒悟到电话那一头的那个男人就是JACK热恋了二十年的爱人,所以她的眼泪充满了眼眶但什么也没有明说. LUREEN也是个很坚强的女人,是个悲剧角色.

她最后的眼泪的确说明了她恍然大悟，但说她坚强可看不出来，只是当时她很愤怒罢了

她没让眼泪流出来,没有一下子发飚,也没有号啕大哭,而是很努力地克制自己的情绪,这是她坚强的表现.

Even the original short story itself does not say clearly how Jack died. Ennis didn't know exactly how Jack died until Jack's father told him about Jack brining another guy to the ranch, "so now he knew it had been the tire iron". It was expressed in Ennis's point of view that Jack was murdered b/c of his homosexuality, not objectively described. But as we all can guess, Jack was indeed murdered.

Her tears at last revealed her vulnerability. Lureen was described a cold, cool, shrewd business woman, who does not even care much about her own son. But I believe she loved Jack, yet she was never loved back the same way. As such, her hair became more and more blonde, and she buried herself and her affection to Jack much deeper inside. At last, as she finally heard the voice of whom Jack has loved for life, all the love, the disguise, the sadness overwhelmed her, so the tears... I think that was a very subtle moment, and Anne Harthaway(?) has acted it nicely.
