you should at least show your competence in programming (c++/java)..and
financial knowledge...it's real tough if you do statistic only...but if
you are PHD, especially from top tier..here comes your chance



there are many ppls i know that are EE or ME or...math.....but they are
well fit for quant after some training and further education.....but
keep in mind: programming/communication/math--should be very strong..

well..try John Hall's Options, Futures and Other Derivatives, the so-called Bible of quants on street; and this one is also good for interview questions;

you can also read through Paul Wilmott's several books on finanical calculus and derivatives....they are all on reading list of quants

A quant. analyst can be a lot of things. Sometimes a position that only requires a skill set of sas and excel is quant. too.
