Being talkative or efficient talking?

今天和一个合作的consultant谈事情，10多分钟的谈话，他讲了一堆东西，结果，我听起来，中心思想就是一句话就能总结的。

是他太talkative，把本来一分钟就说清楚的东西，反反复复绕了好几遍，

还是说，应该学习他这样，我看很多美国人很能说，但是仔细听听就是把同一个意思，重复好几遍

it depends ba. 如果是很正式的presentation,绕来绕去说只会让下面的人觉得烦。如果是一般的TALK，多说点也没啥，还防止冷场。 [em08]

hehe, NT type hates redundancy. But the drawback is that not everyone can get you in one sentense. So it is good to apply some redundency, though not too much. I found sometimes it helps to repeat the talker's core sentense to hint him that you've got his point, and that he does not to emphasize it anymore.

我发现也是这样，开会的时候，有的美国人，就一个小小的意见，翻来覆去地说，说来说去都是一个意思，还特别煞有介事，真受不了。不过我觉得“煞有介事”在公司里海是很重要的。我可能总是比较散漫，觉得工作就是那么个意思，倒不是对工作不负责，其实就是不想显得这个是个多么伟大的工作似的，但是很多人哪怕平时自己也觉得工作不过是混饭吃，在大场面上还是能装得自己的工作多么重要一样，其实谁不是颗螺丝钉呢，但时装也要装装样子的吧。

I would usually cut him off if he is not my boss or boss's boss. but I learned some fancy talk along these years and I would use some on meetings--sometimes you have to soft-talk when it comes to some harsh point. And you have to fill in some blanks to make the meeting look smooth. :P
