在这里讲讲如何interview 最开始break the ice的

Interviewer (man): Let me say a bit about myself, I have two kids and I live in A town (a suburbia town).

Me: I have heard about A town. It is really nice with a lot of young families.

Interviewer (man): Yes, we also live close to our parents.

Me: Yes (with triple nod body language), it is so nice to have grandparents for helping out. They usually have a great time with the grandchildren.

Interviewer (man): Yes, I consider myself very lucky.

Me: Great. Now a bit about me...

The key point is to show genuine interest in your interviewer. But not too nosey of course. A great small talk at the beginning of a job interview helps tremendously. Works especially well for nerdy guys who are usually not complimented enough.

# A sales person knocked my door and was trying to sell me a coupon book
He: Hi I am a student from XXX University and I am here to bring a coupon book to you.
Me: Oh really? I assume it is free.
He: Yeah. This one is free (showing me the coupon booklet). Then we will deliver the coupons every Sunday on your door if you subscribe the following issues. You use shopping Coupons right? We’ve gotten every kind of coupon. Restaurants, movies, groceries, baby stuff.
Me: Yeah Sounds cool. You just visit people door by door? On a raining day?
He: That’s why I chose do apartments tonight. So I don’t have to stand in the rain.
He: (Saw my wedding pictures on the wall). Oh, where was the picture taken?
Me: In china. That is sort of an ancient town village, near by Shanghai. You watched the movie of ‘Mission impossible’ by Tom Cruise’. That’s where a part of the movie produced.
He: Oh. That movie. This scene did look familiar to me. How long have you been living here?
Me: Six years. How about you? You said you are in XXX University. When will you graduate? What is your major?

邀请同事来家里玩。

Me: Hi XX, would you like to come over to our place and play Taxes Hold'Em this weekend?

XX: Sounds good. Which day do you prefer?

Me: How about Saturday 2pm? We can play for a while and then have hotpot for dinner.

XX: Excellent. Is there anything that I need to bring?

Me: Don't worry, I'll prepare everything, unless there's something that you particularly like.

XX: OK, I'll bring a very nice bottle of wine--got it from my hometown.

Me: That's great. See you this weekend.

XX: see ya.

跟同事讨论neighborhood.

Me: I can barely find a clothing store near our neighborhood.

XX: Yeah you probably need to go a little bit further, like the downtown area.

Me: I'm considering moving to that area. It's so boring here at night.

XX: But it's equally important to be quiet at night when you go to sleep right? In downtown, everyone gets drunk after midnight and it's loud on the street.

Me: That's true. Well, there's always a trade-off.

XX: You might want to watch some online movies, like hulu.

Me: That's a good suggestion! Thanks.

XX: You're welcome.

跟同事谈论子女

Manager: How's your baby?

XX: She's very well, growing fast and starts to have her own personality.

Manager: That's good, you don't need to worry too early.

XX: How many kids do you have?

Manager: Three, all grown up. They're all step children from my wife's side.

（诧异，马上镇定）

XX: Do they come back often and visit you?

Manager: No, we go and see them to save them money.

XX: Wow, you're very caring. They must be very thankful.

Manager: I bet you'll do the same!

我发现一般桌子上摆宝宝照片的对相关话题都很有兴趣。尤其是抱怨一下养娃的酸甜苦辣，互相传授一下育儿经。 我每天开车送老大上学，都会听新闻，所以和办公室的同事有不少谈资都是里面听来的，碰巧同事也是关心时事的，我也就开个头，他能讲好久。 政治话题不是不能谈，而是别谈的太深入，尤其是政见不一的时候。比方说办公室的一个朋友自称保守派民主党，我就经常用共和党的笑料“喂”他。 中国也是一大谈资，我主动说的是中国的问题，他也成天说美国这不好那不好，但是中心都是“爱之弥深，责之弥切”，也就是说正因为爱自己的国家才会关心它的问题。

1. 和隔壁妇女同事一起吐槽带娃幸苦，放假攻略 2. 和在装房子的老青年男同事讨论装房子 3. 和在找房子的老青年男同事讨论肿么找房子（地理位置学区风水😄） 4. 和有小娃中年大叔讨论娃的课外活动，最近好玩的可以带娃玩的地方 5. 和中老年大叔妇女聊他们的娃（升学实习， etc etc） 关键点是要记住每个人都最关心什么，第二次遇到可以继续聊
