I have

1. inflamed gum(it's quite bad as it's genetic and I got it from my parents) and

2. excess gum. This partically caused the inflamted gum. again, also genetic problem. Flossing etc will not work here.

My dentist recommended a surgical procedure to clean the debris under the gum and also contour the gum (cut off the excess gum). I need to do it for all the teeth.

The quote I got was $4500 with $1000 insurance coverage (so I'll end up paying $3,500). I suspect that it's too high. Does anybody here know how much this kind of treatment should cost? It's hard to get quote from a different dentist as they have to go through the x-ray and other stuff, so I hope that I can find somebody who knows the ballpark cost.
