楼上的MM说的很对，到了纽约，就要做好心理准备，动不动都要commute个吧小时，有时候哪怕你住岛上，还要看具体位置呢，否则转车加上走路，估计至少也40，50分钟。
我推荐livingston，嘻嘻，当然因为我住这里，老公之前也一直去城里上班。Livingston的一大好处是学区好，而且有NJ最著名的中文学校之一。

4，QUEENS ,FOREST HILL，学区好，PS196， PS101， PS144 都满好，有CITY TAX,房租贵些。(personal comment for living in NYC. If I do not have a car, I will move to Forest Hills. It is very hard to find a parking space on a street. If I have a car, I will prefer to move to North Flushing, little neck, bayside, or Douglaston instead of Forest Hills.

If you want to save city tax and you have a car, move to Wetchester(not sure whether you can do local chinese grocery shopping) or Great Neck(this is much close to chinatown or chinese stores).
If you do not mind to pay city tax and you have a car, move to North Flushing, little neck, bayside, or Douglaston (easy to find parking and you can take LIRR) If you do not have a car, Forest Hills is a good choice and you take the subway. Forest Hills is not too far to go to Chinatown, Elmhurst.

Long Island City有五六栋high rise都是三四十层的，只有一栋是coop，其余都是luxury rental。这里最大的优势就是地段，靠Manhattan非常近，我老公在23&park上班，commute25分钟door to door。我也是这么理解的。那位lily mm说的大概是位于long island city的高层吧，比一般的楼房公寓是要贵的，这种high rise一般有十几二十层，在forest hills也有很多。

可以住的地方很多, 你的孩子还小, 不该住GREAT NECK, 这个区房子又老有贵,离城里远, LIRR--火车月费就好几百. $2500 可以租FOREST HILLS OR KEW GARDENS三室的了.
BTW, 这个价格可以供COOP 了.

特别讨厌long island, 每次坐那个历史最悠久的LIRR 都很倒胃口，纽约地铁已经够脏够乱了，LIRR脏破得简直是纽约地铁的3倍，penn station等车的那地方连空调都没有，热死了。

是啊，搬家的确很痛苦，带小孩家当又特别多。不过两年内应该还会搬一次，这次先找房子租，等熟悉熟悉了就准备买房子了，那个时候就考虑学区的事情。现在挑个好点的PRESCHOOL就行了。
