the first time I took subway in NYC was right after I came back from England. Compared with subway in European countries, the subway in NYC looked pretty ugly--dirty, crowded, unclear map direction... it has all the "bad" characteristics of a big city.
i thought so too at the very beginning, it dirty and massy. but after i was reminded that it was built 100 years ago, i changed my mind.
i like the atmosphere of a metropolis. it's probably one of the few big cities that you can see people walking a street and use public transportation. Chicago is pretty similar. but people there are more laid back and less diversified than those in new york.
new york is my favorite city in the u.s., not my favorite one in the world though. i should probably change the title. :P
